I think Monty is one of my eldest cousins. My mother’s name was Dorothy Denyer, whowould have been his youngest Aunt. If this is so, his father was Francis Denyer of Catlin Street Bermondsey. His grandfather would be Louise Montague Denyer. I don’t know where he and my gtandmother lived when they where younger, but Grandad died of a heart attack when my mother was quite young and non of the family ever knew him.
Reputedly he (Louise Montague) was a Carpenter and Joiner andrelated to a family of undertakers in Brighton. I have checked in BT Phone Book and there is such a firm, and there are several Denyers in Brighton. Another is cousin Percy Denyer (Actor.1920+)

Interesting story! It’s not a line that I intend to follow much (grandmother’s brother’s widow’s second husband!) but I’ll leave your comment up just in case other family members need your info or want to get in contact with you.
His wife Catherine was married to my Grandmother’s brother – and he was also a music hall and radio star. This could be how the Shewards and Denyers met! Richard (stage name: Henri Merton) died tragically young (he apparently dropped dead in the street on his way to the BBC) and left his widow in acute financial stress.

And just a small correction… from the various census entries and his marriage certificate, Francis Frank’s father was Charles Louis Denyer (and mother, Eve).
My Grandma was Norah Denyer and came from Bermondsey and she married to Edwin Denyer and lived in Westminster. Kenneth Denyer was a son and he lived in Wellington Road Hastings, he had a brother George and three sisters Jean, Christine and Yvonne.
I think there was another brother called David.

So any connection to Montague Lionel Denyer’s parents, Frank and Lily Denyer? I’ve got his baptism record that shows them living at 1a Ilderton Road, Bermondsey in 1915.
As I mentioned above, I’m not actively updating this line, but will keep this message live and hopefully it will help somebody else.
